Endangered Birds – Take it in

Due to habitat loss, subsequent loss of nesting sites and even poisoning, there are some bird species that have become threatened or endangered. Many bird species cannot successfully breed, given these external pressures and their numbers are reducing. Vultures are an example of birds under threat from poisoning and habitat loss. There are many programmes and organisations doing outstanding work to learn from what is happening and put measures in place to prevent further damage to these unique species. A success story in terms of endangered birds can be scene in the Southern Ground Hornbill. This veracious hunter was under threat from habitat loss and unsuccessful breeding. Thanks to the efforts of many dedicated people and organisations, the Southern Ground Hornbill has been staging a comeback. It is not completely safe as a species, but their numbers have been increasing and hopefully will continue to do so.
